Enigmunited kingdom
Enigm is a Japanese street artist based in London who also considers himself an avant-garde street artist. Growing up in a prefecture near Tokyo, Enigm discovered graffiti as a teenager as he searched for a place where he belonged. However, he later realized that his true interest lay in creation rather than vandalism and began his career as a street artist and painter. Despite having no formal artistic training, Enigm has developed a diverse artistic practice that spans both street art and oil painting.
Enigm’s work is heavily influenced by Western art, including anatomy books and entomology encyclopedias. The numbers and lines in his paintings are reminiscent of these sources, and he cites his obsession with Western culture as a result of growing up in the fast-paced and technologically advanced city of Tokyo. In contrast, the off-white backgrounds and minimalistic finishes of his works can be seen as a reaction to the hustle and bustle of city life.
Enigm is also influenced by the Surrealism movement and aims to revive it in the contemporary world. His works, whether in the form of street art or oil paintings, are characterized by a strange charm and witty atmosphere that encourages viewers to take a second look. Enigm’s art presents contemporary human conditions, philosophical ideas related to youth, and contradictions and enigmas, encouraging viewers to consider these themes in a new light.
