Okudaspain
Okuda is a well-known painter and sculptor who is internationally recognized for his distinctive pop surrealist style. Born Oscar San Miguel Erice in Santander, Spain on November 19, 1980, Okuda’s artwork often reflects his thoughts on existentialism, the universe, the infinite, the meaning of life, and the false freedom of capitalism. His work is characterized by geometric prints, multicolored ephemeral architectures, and organic forms that blend with grey bodies, and it often sparks conversations about the conflict between modernity and our roots.
Okuda’s career as a street artist began in 1996 when he painted in old factories and abandoned railways in Santander. By 2009, his work had gained significant recognition, and he had the opportunity to tour with the IAM project, exhibiting his art in galleries in New York City, Berlin, London, and Paris. This helped him reach a more mature and diverse audience and allowed his work to become more personal and emotional.
Okuda is inspired by surrealism, pop art, and various cultures he encounters through his travels. He is also influenced by films made by directors like Jodorowsky, Michael Gondry, Leos Carax, and Terry Gilliam, as well as his environment, the people around him, cinema, fashion, music, traveling, and his everyday life.
Throughout his career as a street artist, Okuda has faced few obstacles, mainly related to the false impressions capitalism, religion, wars, and law enforcement can give about freedom. He believes in the freedom to create art and maintains a positive outlook, and he does not subscribe to any particular religion but instead believes that God is within each individual. Okuda’s major accomplishments include traveling the world to create his best works of art, collaborating with other artists from different cultures, and exhibiting his work in major art galleries and on buildings and walls around the globe.
Okuda has also worked with major brands, and in 2019, he organized Kaos Garden, an immersive party experience that debuted in Ibiza and later traveled to Miami and New York. In the future, he hopes to continue growing as an artist, complete larger projects, and paint in countries like Australia, the United States, and various Asian nations. Okuda currently resides in Madrid, Spain.
